PRESS RELEASE FOR THE YOUNG ARCTIC ARTISTS 2017:

Young Arctic Artists 2017: Alien threshold
Galleria Napa and Studio Mustanapa 28.10. – 15.11.17

Young Arctic Artists 2017–exhibition and network project brings to Rovaniemi emerging contemporary artists from northern areas of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia and Iceland. One important goal of the three year exhibition project is to create networks between young artists, curators and art producers living in the northern Arctic regions through practice based collaboration.

For the second edition of YAA exhibition series, the artists have been asked to investigate the paradigm of alienation from their personal point of view. Without taking any specific political stand, the exhibition rather navigates the borders of alien and familiar territories as source of creative force and artistic thinking. Alien threshold is the frontier, a constant redefinition of familiar concepts, phenomenons, creativity and the self, and therefor stepping stone for critically engaging process.

The artists have been selected in relation to their ability to work directly on site, and because of their experimental sensitivity. During the five days stay in Rovaniemi, the Artists will be challenged in an experimental laboratory where ideas can merge and develop further, and the final results are yet unknown. In addition, artists Daria Orlova (RUS) and Maiia Selezneva (RUS) are partaking one week residency in Villa Korva prior the week in Rovaniemi, working on their exhibition concepts.

As part of the program, Pecha Kucha event where visiting and local artists will present their work in relaxed setting, will be held at Hostel Cafe Koti on Thursday 26th of October from 5 to 8 pm. Join us for art, discussion, food and drinks!
